Is Your Child a Car Rider at LEMS?

Fri, 09/06/2019 - 12:50pm

If so, please review the following so we can have a smooth drop-off/pick-up from school.

During this first week of school we have been working with Cradlerock Elementary School (CRES) and Head Start to improve our arrival and dismissal procedures for car riders.  We know that there has been congestion in the parking lot, and as a result we have updated our procedures. We are hoping the processes and maps below will help clarify how the process should work.

LEMS Arrival Process:

  • Head Start has asked us not to drive through their “drop-off loop” in the morning,  since that is their morning drop-off as well.

  • We are asking parents to follow the red arrows on the arrival map  when you drop-off your child.

  • We encourage you to pull along the sidewalk when your child exits your vehicle, and notallow hhim/her to exit in the middle of the parking lot.

LEMS Dismissal Timeline/Process:

  • LEMS and CRES dismiss at the same time. We have worked with CRES to slightly stagger our dismissals to avoid congestion in the hallways:

    • 2:43 p.m. - LEMS bus riders are dismissed.

    • 2:45 p.m. - CRES bus riders, CA aftercare, and car riders are dismissed

    • 2:50 p.m. - LEMS Car riders and walkers are dismissed.

  • Unlike the morning, we are able to use the Head Start “drop-off loop” in the afternoon.

  • In an effort to try to avoid back-ups in the parking lot, we are asking all LEMS parents to pull through the Head Start loop, following the green arrows on the dismissal map :

    • LEMS pick-up traffic should continue to pull forward into the Head Start loop and around to LEMS, to wait for your child to exit the building (CRES parents will follow the red arrows).

    • Once you have your child at the LEMS student pick-up area, you may merge into the exit lane to leave the parking lot, as indicated on the dismissal map.

  • When exiting onto Cradlerock Way please use your turn signal to let other drivers know your intentions.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to make both arrival and dismissal a safe and efficient process.  If you have any additional questions or concerns feel free to reach us at 410.313.7600.
