Back to School Night is quickly approaching and will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. We look forward to having you visit our school, meet your child’s teachers, and learn more about the classes your child is taking this year! Please review the details below to make the night an enjoyable, successful one for all.

What time should I arrive?

We suggest you arrive by 5:45 p.m., as the evening will begin promptly at 5:55 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parking will be challenging; we suggest that you carpool if possible. Thanks!

Note: We will have a pre-BTSN program that begins at 5:15 p.m. More information about this program is below, where the schedule for the evening is discussed.

Who should attend?

We know you may be wondering whether or not to bring your child with you. Although he/she may want to attend, we respectfully request that if at all possible, you come to Back to School Night without your child.  Space is limited, and if this year is like other years, the hallways will be filled with adults moving in various directions to get to class on time.  Don’t worry about getting lost – staff and student volunteers will be available to help you arrive to your child’s classrooms, so you will not need to bring your student to help guide you.  You will also receive a map of the school to help you find your way to classes. Thank you in advance - we appreciate your support!

What should I bring?

Your child’s schedule will be waiting for you in his/her administrative homeroom, so you do not need to bring a copy of the schedule with you.  Of course, you are always welcome to bring a copy (take a picture of your child's, or download it from Synergy) especially if more than one adult will be attending (click here for our 2019-2020 administrative homeroom lists).

You may want to bring something so that you can take notes, if needed.

In addition, we will have LEMS water bottles on sale for $10 if you are interested in purchasing spiritwear. We have other items for sale, too, but those can only be ordered online here.  Want more information about our spiritwear sale? Click here.

What should I do when I arrive?

When you arrive, please proceed to the cafeteria.  We will gather there for a presentation before moving to your child’s homeroom administrative homeroom; click here for our 2019-2020 administrative homeroom lists (please be sure to look under the proper grade for your child’s last name).  Once you arrive to your child’s administrative homeroom, you will receive his/her schedule. If for some reason you are running late, schedules will be moved to a help desk in the atrium at 6:38 p.m. We also suggest you take a picture of your child's schedule so you have it handy.

What is the schedule for the evening?

The evening will begin promptly at 5:55 p.m. in the cafeteria and will end at 7:45 p.m. We are starting at 5:55 p.m. as we will show a short safety message / video from HCDrugFree prior to the start of the evening.  We strongly encourage you to arrive in time to view the video. Click here if you'd like to view it ahead of time.

After the large group meeting in the cafeteria, you will move to your child’s administrative homeroom where you will pick up your child’s schedule, a school map, and the bell schedule for the evening.  After a brief overview of the evening’s schedule, you will be “dismissed to period 1”. Classes will be 7 minutes in length with a 3-minute transition time between classes. A more detailed evening schedule is attached below.

We will also have a pre-BTSN program starting at 5:15 p.m. to give you a chance to visit the following tables in the cafeteria:

  • PTA

  • Howard County Library

  • Howard County Health Department offices of Behavioral Health and Health Promotions,

  • LEMS Spiritwear

  • Wellness Telemedicine Center

  • Student Services

  • Canvas/Family File support (we will have laptops available for families to update Family File and get help with Canvas).

  • Eagles Basketball, Regal Eagles and High Achievers

I need help with Canvas and the Family File.   Will there be support offered on Back-to-School-Night?

We will have workstations set-up right outside of the cafeteria, starting at 5:15 p.m., for anyone who needs support with Canvas and/or the Family File.  We will be open throughout Back to School Night, so be sure to stop by!

What else can I expect?

Attending Back to School Night is an exciting time for parents and teachers!  Our students also look forward to having their parents visit the school to see their classrooms and meet their teachers.  We look forward to having you visit our school, and we are excited that you will have the opportunity to visit your child’s classrooms and listen to a presentation from the professionals who teach them.  We respectfully request that you refrain from recording or photographing the presentations.

Our staff members will have a brief amount of time to share the information they feel is the most important for you to know.  Because time is limited, there is not time for individual conversations or conferences.  If there is something that you would like to address with a teacher, we want to give you the time and attention you deserve which cannot be achieved on Back to School Night.  If this is the case, we respectfully request that you either contact the teacher directly or that you contact the student services office to arrange for a conference.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, 9/11/19!
