Message from Principal Vandenberge 12/23/16

Greetings, Lake Elkhorn families:

We are so pleased to have Ms. Retterer, Ms. Bilal and Mr. Rea leading our music program. Our students treated us to two wonderful concerts this week. Their improvement since the beginning of the year has been awesome. Thank you for continuing to remind them to practice regularly to continue honing the skill! We thank Oakland Mills High School for hosting the concerts in their auditorium.

This month, we have had the pleasure of supporting the community with help from Dr. Calvin Ball, Giant Food and staff from Cradlerock Elementary and Lake Elkhorn Middle. Ms. Tracey Williams, our Pupil Personnel Worker, coordinated the effort on behalf of Cradlerock and Lake Elkhorn. Dr. Ball was able to secure toys for kids in need through Toys for Tots. Similarly, Giant Food donated hundreds of boxes of healthy food to Principal Chrobak at Oakland Mills Middle and these boxes were shared with several schools in our cluster. Finally, our staff members donated gift cards for families. Ms. Williams orchestrated the distribution and we are so happy to support families for the holidays!

We will get another chance to partner with Oakland Mills Middle on January 3 for an internet safety presentation. A representative from the U.S. Department of Justice will be presenting to parents. The program is "Innocence Stolen: Protecting our Children Online." The event is not for students and provides extensive information about online safety. Please join us at OMMS at 7:00 pm!

Today we conducted our required Indoor Environmental Quality Assessment.  The process provides an overall review of the building's general cleanliness, moisture, ventilation, thermal (temperature) comfort, and other areas that could affect students, staff, and parents. The IEQ review committee members will be making recommendations for improvement based on the findings of the assessment.

Have a safe and happy holiday!

With Eagle PRIDE,

Martin Vandenberge
