Free tax preparation is available at The MultiService Center, 9900 Washington Boulevard (Route 1) in Laurel.  Taxpayers who earned up to $54,000 in 2015 are eligible. MakingChange, a Howard County non-profit, is providing the service.  Call 410-313-0220 to make an appointment.


Center for Creative Life and Learning

The Girls on Fire Mentoring program is designed to help girls build self-esteem. The program targets girls age 8-14, 8-11 and 12-14. Girls participate in a variety of art forms activities and self-esteem building group sessions. Meets the 4th Sat. each month at the Columbia Art Center. For information call 410-312-0758.

Empty Bowls , the National Art Honor Society, the National Honor Society and the Culinary Department at Howard High School are hosting an Empty Bowls fundraiser for Grassroots in the school cafeteria on Wed., Mar 2, from 5-8 p.m.  The Art Department is creating 300 bowls for painting by attendees and later will kiln-fire the bowls.  For $10, guests get their own bowl and a soup dinner prepared by the Culinary Department. Pay at the door.

Youth and Teen Model Call, young men and women are invited to participate in an audition to perform in the 4th annual Fashion Show produced by Sean Gibson of Model Citizen Models. University of Maryland

Exploring Engineering is a one-week residential summer program for high school women (rising juniors and seniors) who are considering engineering as a possible major and career. July 10-16, (Session I) or July 17-23, (Session II) The application deadline is Mar 31.

Students will live on campus for one week and be immersed in the world of engineering through hands-on activities, laboratory experiments, informative workshops, team challenges and seminars with professional engineers.
