March 8, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to prepare 8th grade students for the end of the year activities, we would like to inform  you of the important dates and funds necessary for an exciting end to your child’s middle school career.

End of Year Celebration : This year’s 8th grade trip will be to Six Flags on Wednesday, June 8th.  Students will leave school at 9:45 am and return to school at 6:15 pm. This is an extended day trip so students must be picked up at school by a parent or guardian at 6:15 pm. The cost of the  trip will be $55 and includes price of admission, bus cost, and a catered lunch. If a student already has a season pass for the 2016 season, the cost of the trip will be adjusted. Please contact Ms. FranceKelly for more information about using the season pass.

8th Grade Closing Ceremony : The 8th Grade Closing Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 7 pm. It will be located at Hammond High School. We ask that all students report to Hammond’s cafeteria by 6:15pm. Each student will be given 3 tickets for family/friends to attend the promotion ceremony. There will be a process to apply for more tickets, more information will come in April about ordering additional promotion tickets. The dress code for this event is business casual, not formal. All school rules apply, including dress code. Students wearing inappropriate clothing will not be allowed to participate. If a young lady is wearing a dress with thin straps or no straps, we ask that they wear a sweater to cover up.

8th grade Class Tshirts:  8th grade students will have the opportunity to help design our end of the year tshirt, to commemorate a successful 8th grade year! We will create an original design before spring break, and we will send out order forms with pricing details in April. A portion of the proceeds raised from tshirt sales will go towards end of the year activities.

***Permission slips, payment information, and more details will be sent home with students after Spring Break.

While we have many exciting opportunities to celebrate our students’ successes, we have a few months of hard work ahead of us. Please take a moment to discuss with your child the importance of finishing their 8th grade year with perseverance, respect, integrity, dependability, excellence (PRIDE) and appropriate behavior. We want everyone to be able to enjoy these events.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jay Farmer, 8th grade team leader at 4103137601 or jay_farmer@hcpss.org .

Thank You,

LEMS 8th Grade Team
