LEMS Recyling Contest

Mon, 01/30/2017 - 8:43am

The Green Team here at LEMS is running a aluminum can and plastic bottle recycling contest between the different grades.  The Science teachers from each grade have volunteered to have collection stations in their classrooms to support the program.  So Mr. Gatz, Mrs. Youse and Ms. Benedetto are helping us to collect.  There will also be collections done during lunch shifts to try and help improve our numbers.  We are encouraging students and staff to feel free to bring in appropriate materials from home to support this effort.  The grade that collects the most in the next two weeks will be getting extra recess time outside.

As a part of this effort there will be a bottle flipping center on Friday the 3rd and 10th. People who are interested in participating can bring a bottle and they will have one flip to try and "land it".  If they are successful they will be given a prize.  The students will only get one flip per bottle and then the bottle will promptly be emptied and added to their grades collection.

The Green Team at LEMS has been working with the PepsiCo Recycling program for the past two years.  We have been collecting and posting our statitics to this orgainzation as they collect.  The goal for this school year is to collect 11,000 plastice bottles and aluminum cans.  Before this contest started we were only 21% of the way to our goal.  The hope is that this contest will help us to get much closer to the goal.
